Presidents Message This will be a very short but very important Presidents message. Now is the time to register for the AFNOA reunion. I have included a description of each reunion event and a registration form elsewhere in this issue. Call the Hyatt, Reston Town Center, hotel at 1(800) 233-1234 and ask for the special AFNOA rate of $110 per night for Thursday through Sunday October 4 through 7. Note that the reunion goes through Sunday this year with the General Membership meeting on Sunday morning, the tour of the Udvar-Hazy National air and Space Museum Sunday afternoon and the reunion banquet Sunday evening. There are several reasons why this reunion is scheduled for Thursday through Sunday rather than the usual Wednesday through Saturday. The Hyatt, Reston Town Center, hotel is very popular with people doing business in the Washington area. The hotel is already fully booked for Wednesday evening and the rate for that evening would have been $375 if we could have blocked any rooms. Since Monday, October 8, is a holiday (Columbus Day), we booked Thursday through Sunday and were able get reduced rate of $110 per night. Having the banquet on Sunday evening also helped reduced the banquet cost. The Monday holiday should also make airline reservations easier. All things considered Thursday October 4 through Sunday October 7 seemed like the better choice. Please be sure your reservations include Sunday October 7. The hotel has agreed to extend the rate thru Monday October 9 for a few rooms for those people who would like to stay an additional day and take the Mount Vernon tour or visit another place on their own. Please note that some of the tours will be number limited (50 passengers per bus with 2 bus maximum) so reservations will be made on a first registered first served basis. It will therefore be important for you to send me your reunion registration form early to assure a seat on the bus. Cancellation with a full refund will be honored up to September 1st. If you will send me an email message (AFNOApresident@cfl.rr.com) when you make your hotel reservations I will add you to my email list and notify you of any changes or important information about the reunion. This reunion is setting up to be one of the best ever so I suggest your make both your hotel and your reunion reservations early and then plan to enjoy yourself. |
